One of the great things about a joint regional meeting is the ability to showcase a broader range of tech transfer successes than either region could on its own. The 2020 FLC Midwest-Southeast Regional Meeting was no exception, and that diversity is reflected in the four award winning projects from those two regions.
Each region had one winning project from the Department of Agriculture (USDA) and another associated with the Department of Energy (DOE), but those four award-winning tech transfer teams cover a surprising range of topics and T2 strategies.
The USDA's Agricultural Research Service took home one award in each region, with the health-centric Midwest award focused on the genetics of antibiotic resistance associated with the cattle industry and the Southeast award shifting the focus to the economic benefits of recovering nitrogen from livestock waste.
Similarly, within the DOE, Oak Ridge National Lab's Southeast award for technology that facilitates large-scale 3-D printing of thermoset materials contrasts with the Midwest award for the National Nuclear Security Administration's implementation of facilities management software developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - which brings yet another federal agency into the T2 success story mix.
Please join us in congratulating the award winners on their noteworthy innovations.
