Technology transfer professionals know that partnerships come in many shapes and sizes—something that's evident in the wide range of partnership types represented by the Mid-Atlantic region's half-dozen 2020 award winners.
The Excellence in Technology Transfer category showcases two different types of industry partnerships: one in which the industry partner facilitated field testing of a federal technology, and another in which the federal lab provided scientific testing of an industry-developed drug candidate.
The two Educational Institution and Federal Lab Partnership Award winners feature two very different ends of the educational spectrum. One winning project involved a medical teaching hospital, and the other involved a regional education network focused on middle- and high-school students.
The entrepreneur-support program at the heart of the State and Local Economic Development Award-winning project involves one primary state government partner, but the program also facilitates funding partnerships for start-ups with federal labs and industry.
Even the winners of the familiar Interagency Partnership Award put their own spin on partnership: Rather than commercializing or disseminating a technology, these agencies used technology to verify that existing federal guidance adequately protects emergency responders from existing and newly emerging chemical hazards.
Please join us in congratulating the award winners—and their partners—on their noteworthy collaborations.
