Our new Spotlight series on FLC Regional Award winners kicks off with a team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory (MIT-LL). Their project was recognized with an Excellence in Technology Transfer award and a Regional Meeting panel discussion with four key team members:
- Kevin LeFebvre, Technology Transfer Officer, MIT
- Bill Herzog, Advanced Materials & Microsystems Group, MIT-LL
- Jeffrey Chou, Co-founder and CEO, Sync Computing
- Suraj Bramhavar, Co-founder and CTO, Sync Computing.
The MIT-LL project underscores the T2 opportunities associated with start-ups founded by former lab scientists and reminds us of the continued value of analog computing technology even in an increasingly digital world.
This T2 success story involves a low-cost analog computing system designed to solve combinatorial optimization problems that are too complicated for current digital computing technology. The T2 partnership involves Sync Computing, a start-up founded by former MIT-LL scientists who helped develop the technology.
Its potential commercial applications include large-scale materials simulations; drug discovery; satellite, vehicle, and logistics optimization; financial portfolio optimization; accelerated deep learning; and unsupervised machine learning.
Please join us in congratulating these award winners on an innovative technology and an equally innovative approach to its commercialization.
