Among the objectives of most technology transfer efforts is the ability to make a positive impact on society, the economy, or national security. Quantifying the impact of T2 also helps stakeholders and the public better understand the importance of federally funded innovation.
But quantifying the impact of T2 isn't easy. That's why one of the new 2020 FLC National Award categories focused specifically on innovators who not only used technology transfer to make a positive impact but also found creative measures to describe that impact.
Those measures include software downloads, product sales, cost savings, lives saved, and number of times an open-source technology has been cloned. And although the award-winning projects listed below were submitted prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fact that the FDA's MyStudies App and the technology underlying the USUHS vaccine work have contributed to COVID-19 response efforts gives those technologies an additional layer of tangible impact.
Please join us in congratulating the award winners on their noteworthy innovations.
