Of all the research areas being explored by federal laboratories, energy may be the one with the greatest potential to benefit a wide range of market sectors.
This Spotlight - which will wrap up our series on the 2020 National Award winners - illustrates the broad range of applications for energy research. The benefits for the transportation industry may be the most obvious, as exemplified by advances in hydrogen refueling and rare earth recycling technologies. But this type of crossover appeal also applies to other areas: rare earth recycling will aid the communications industry as well as transportation, and researchers are also starting to explore synergies between energy and aerospace.
So it's not surprising that energy was one of the first FLC Technology Focus Areas. And energy research is sure to come up frequently in discussions of cross-agency partnerships, which have recently been prioritized by the White House as a goal.
Please join us in congratulating the award winners listed below on their energy-related innovations. The winners who have not yet been featured in a previous Spotlight are listed first.
And congratulations to all of the 2020 National Award winners. We're excited to bring you more information on the 2021 National Award winners next year. In the meantime, stay tuned for new Spotlights on the technologies and innovations recognized by the 2020 Regional Awards.
